I am LaShonda Dancy, That Chocolate Girl. This brand was created to empower, uplift, and encourage the woman of a darker skin tone. All Queens are beautiful whether your skin is of lighter complexion, medium complexion, or darker complexion. Throughout my adolescent years, I struggled with my self-worth and appearance due to being a dark-skinned woman and having inadequate feelings of myself.
I often did not speak to anyone about these feelings although I journaled often about them. I smiled all of the time, but no one knew the hurt I felt behind the consistent grin. No matter how many times my parents told me that I was beautiful, a part of me still doubted myself. Additionally, my hair began to fall out during my high school years which really took a toll on a self-confidence. Throughout my 20’s, I was on a journey to find myself while still battling a silent journey of not feeling pretty enough.
Once I gained my self-confidence, I wanted to uplift other adolescent women and girls whom may have had this same struggle that I experienced. Being that I journal about everything, God birthed within me “That Chocolate Girl,” a journal all for us Chocolate Queens. I can relate to you sis. So, release your thoughts on the pages, pray about them, and rest well knowing that you are beautifully and wonderfully made. You are enough! God bless!
